Pest Monitoring and Control

Feral animals have a detrimental impact on our native animals and plants by means of predation, competition for food, spreading diseases and destroying habitat. They also impact on soil and waterways by causing erosion. Where domestic livestock can be relocated once an area has been degraded, it is far more difficult to keep feral animals away during a period of revegetation.

Platypus can help with managing and controlling feral animals, such as deer, pigs, goats and foxes. We are able to monitor presence and abundance of the species using both thermal imaging and spotlight transect. Control methods can include fencing and shooting, following the guidelines for humane treatment as outlined by the Threat Abatement Plan.
